Skin Concerns

Lines and Wrinkles

Most signs of ageing seen on the face are the result of collagen loss. You may try to supplement your collagen with creams and lotions, but the molecules are too large to absorb into your skin.

Studies show red light to be an effective source of skin rejuvenation. Red light absorbs 8-10 mm into your skin and stimulates the production of collagen. With the increase of collagen and elastin, wrinkles smooth, fine lines plump and fade away. As the skin is revitalised, your face can appear firmer.

Acne

Acne is caused by dead skin cells that trap bacteria in your pores. The trapped bacteria triggers an immune system response. This response is what forms the acne when your immune system targets the bacteria and tries to eliminate it.

In the lab, more than 99.9 percent of acne-causing bacteria is eliminated by blue light. The blue light penetrates below the skin surface and kills the bacteria, preventing the reaction of the immune system and preventing the acne from forming.Blue light therapy works quickly. Some people who have tried blue light for their acne have noticed visible results within 24 hours.

Age Spots

Age spots are caused by the overproduction of melanin deep within your skin. Since age spots are most often found in the areas exposed to sunlight, they are believed to be caused by UV damage from repeat sun exposure.

Green light therapy reduces dark spots by decreasing the production of melanocytes, the melanin forming cells found in the lower level of the dermis. These melanocytes are responsible for creating age spots. As less melanin is produced, the dark patches fade.

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is a disorder that causes patches of your skin to become darker than their surrounding areas. This is triggered by the skin's excessive production of melanin.

The deepest part of the epidermis (or external layer of the skin) is where you can find melanocytes, the highly differentiated cells that produce melanin. When these get overexcited, the production of the pigment goes into high gear. Because the wavelengths used in near-infrared therapy for hyperpigmentation are long, these can penetrate deep down to the tissues.

Eczema

Red light therapy uses near-infrared and/or red light to restore the body's healing system. Red light therapy stimulates the ATP cells within the mitochondria, resulting in a quicker turnover of damaged cells and new cell production. The body's autoimmune system is also stimulated, which aids in recovery. As a result, red light therapy reduces inflammation that triggers eczema. As the inflammation decreases, the itching and redness diminish as well.

Blue light also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties which makes it a useful treatment for eczema, psoriasis, and other chronic inflammatory skin conditions.

Inflammation

Red light therapy treatments help supply the mitochondria in your cells with the light needed to make the ATP energy that powers your body. Red light therapy allows a person to supplement the sunlight they get from their environment with concentrated wavelengths of red and near-infrared light.

Red and near infrared light acts as a very mild form of stress that activates protective mechanisms in cells. When red light hits the skin and penetrates into cells, mitochondria are nudged to make energy more efficiently. This boosts the production of healing anti-inflammatories and antioxidants that speed up healing
